I guess I prefer Possessions, Hauntings, Exorcisms, and Scary Nuns

I like horror movies and earlier this week I watched "Obsession" with the older kids and am not sure what to think about it. And since I have a blog that doesn't though stop me from telling you about this.
Without any spoiling anything I can say that the movie surely had it moments. Despite being somewhat predictable1 I think it was a good movie as far as horror movies go. It seemed to me that the movie also followed a trend that I found frequently in rather recent movies in this genre.
To me, it shared the feel, the vibes if you will, of movies like Hereditary, Midsommar, VVITCH, Weapons, Longlegs, and quite a few more that I now can't recall (additionally I am sure I am mixing up titles, but I hope you get the idea). Vibes that are somewhat mostly disturbing or in the realm of the weird. Or possibly both at the same time.
I am just not quite sure do I enjoy these kinds of movies.
Sure, on some level they give you the creeps, but more out of being disgusting than out of being "scary". Whatever "scary" actually may be.

Everyone has their own definition of "scary", but I think watching someone banging his own head to pulp - which had been a troupe in a few movies now, having been fed things that you better not eat, or being covered with feces does not qualify as "scary" to me. It's only disgusting. Or disturbing.I don't know what it is, but I prefer horror movies with some good old-fashioned possessions, demons, maybe some haunted shit, creepy ghosts, priests... Throw in a nice exorcism and add bonus points for creepy nuns if you will.
Movies like The Exorcist, the ones in the Conjuring universe, The Omen, japanese horror movies like Ringu (the whole lot of them), The Grudge are among my favourites in this genre. To me it seems there aren't much of those anymore, or at the least are not popular anymore.
Sure, there are still some real nice gems that I run into every now and then, especially out of Asia or out of Spain (I have seen some great movies from there but can't remember the titles now anymore), but those tend to be little obscure and not that easy to find on the usual streaming services.
Then again most likely I'm just too old for this shit. But that's just me.
