A Blogful of Indecision...

Hello World! Could this be my last move?

It is Saturday, the 7th of February 2026 by the time I start to write this. During the past two weeks I have been thinking way too much about which blogging platform to use. I "thought" I had settled on Bearblog already, but then (about two weeks or so ago) ran into Pagecord and then things got complicated.

In fact, during the past two days, I have spent a stupid amount of time writing a very long blog post (which still is in draft-mode) in which I rambled on and on trying to come up with solution whether to use both platforms, or just one, and then which.

In the end, it must have been sometime around midnight, I "thought" I came up with a solution that would work for me. By then many words had been written, I gained some clarity in my thoughts and I thought I knew what to use. I still wanted to sleep on the result, but I was sure I figured it out.

I was sure...

And then I ran into Kev Quirks post introducing his blogging software "Pure Blog" while doing a last browsing through my feed!

What I always had been looking for was a plain-text/markdown blogging software that I can use from everywhere, preferably one that I can host myself easily. I have used Hugo and an orgmode-based static solution, but those always always required me to work from a computer to built it on. I simply couldn't be publishing, say during the vacation, without carrying the laptop around from a table or the phone.

For a while I considered Kirby, but for some reason I couldn't really wrap my head around it.

After reading the Pure Blog documentation I figured this is just what I had been looking for.

It's simple, so simple in fact that I got it up and running on my go-to solution for self-hosting, Uberspace, in no time (granted I haven't used Uberspace since I stopped using Hugo and went to a Ghost for a while and had some reading to do there), but when you can read this things have been all smooth and easy.

And what's next?

I will now go through my usual routine and import old posts, because I seemingly can't live without them despite having tried to do a fresh start multiple times. Also all the pages will have to be imported and and of course I will do some theming, provided I will ever be able to settle on a color theme.

Also I will have to set up the menu, upload favicon and stuff and overall get more familiar with the software.

I also decided to use my new-ish svbck.blog domain for this. It's a blog after all.

So, this had been again quite a few words for a little announcement. Thanks again to Kev Quirk for building this in the first place and I will now stop here, press the publish button and start importing all the things.

If you don't want to get "old" posts in your feed-reader I suggest not to subscribe to my RSS feed just now. You can of course follow me on Mastodon if you want to I will post links to new posts there in any case.
